The greatest essayist and poet of all time is Ralph Waldo Emerson. He once said, “To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment.” Pretty sure, indie kids all over the world would have been proud to have met Mr. Emerson. Those words of Emerson are very much what Indie is all about. To understand better, let us briefly talk about this lifestyle that many are interested to. Indies are unique from what is ordinary and they believe in what is outside the norms. They disgust stereotypes. It is said to have originated in the early 70′s and 80′s when music becomes a life changing experience for everyone.
Nobody can really deny the influence of music to the imagery and identity of people. Since various musicians are embracing Indie belief, a lot of kids as young as eight are captivated by this fad called Indie. The vogue is all about freedom of expression, without conforming to what the stereotypes believe in. They do not dress to dazzle others but to please themselves.
So, what is an Indie? Indie kids value their rareness and impartiality. They do not follow trends of the overall public. They like alternative music. They dislike music found in the top 20s of the music charts since those are the bands and single artists that the majority adores. They are open minded, having that said, they do not judge people just by looking at others demeanor.
Adolescent Indies are fond of adorning themselves with various piercings. An Indie on the other hand are inadmissible to pierce their body and they have to wait for the legal age of 18. Unless, their parents are Indies too. But generally, kids under 18 are disallowed to have body piercing of any kind. They must wait until they’re a little older before they can experiment with their bodies.
Since under-age kids are not yet allowed to do the things they want to do even if they have control of their bodies, there are simple ways to counterfeit it. Why not buy magnetic earrings as they are non invasive. They are not that invasive and they are distinctive. They are generally found in tattoo shops or boutique stores.
When it comes to their attire, most Indie kids are into hot pants with vintage tees. Girls on the other hand are attached to big accessories and makeup. Although many parents are against this because they can appear cheap. Their philosophy is that they look atypical when they are wearing heavy makeup and big accessories. At times they wear their hair as if it has life of its own. They don’t care to brush. They don’t even care if they are called names by people around them.
If you know someone who is attracted to Indie, do not judge. Who knows? That kid is still a son or a daughter, a brother or a sister and someone who still belongs to the human race. Nobody can really tell what the child may turn out in the future. So don’t call them misfits or outcasts because they fit faultlessly in this world and they are entitled to have their own views and values. They just don’t want to be conformed in this world and be called as average because they are not. Rather, love them and care them, although they are unique, they are still humans.
